Campaign for a New Baseball / Softball Complex
A “Building Fields of Dreams” Baseball/Softball Campaign, steering committee was formed in 2012 to study and investigate the need for a new multi-diamond complex planned for just north of South Middle School, along South 20th Street. This new complex would alleviate scheduling conflicts at Apollo Field, where there are only five game fields to serve over 1200 youth each week during the summer. Youth fast pitch softball and baseball have seen explosive participation increases in the last four years creating the need.
In summer of 2015, we broke ground on the Scheels Sports Complex, thanks to the pledges and the gifts of local organizations and individuals passionate about providing the needed fields for our youth baseball and softball players! We completed construction on two of the four baseball/softball diamonds, along South 20th Street between 42nd and 45th Avenue South. The first two fields at the Scheels Sports Complex allowed additional fields for practice, new fields for games, and financially impacted Greater Grand Forks during tournaments.
Two additional diamonds were completed in the summer of 2017, giving Scheels Sports Complex a total of 4 diamonds. The main building was also completed in 2017, providing concessions, restrooms, and a storage building for the complex.
If you have interest in getting more involved, finding more about our naming sponsorship opportunities that are available, or would just like to help make sure we are able to complete the project as planned, please contact us. As funds become available, we plan to add field lights and more amenities to this destination baseball / softball complex.
While our fundraising efforts continue in order to fully complete and maintain the multi-diamond complex, the Grand Forks Parks and Recreation Foundation and the Building Fields of Dreams Steering Committee want to thank you for supporting the Building Fields of Dreams Youth Baseball/Softball Complex Campaign!
